Over the course of his scientific profession, Goodenough earned a doctorate in physics from the College of Chicago, and labored with different scientists who beforehand labored on the Manhattan Venture — the top-secret World Conflict II scientific undertaking that introduced forth the primary atomic bomb.

In keeping with the College of Texas, Goodenough had no kids and his spouse of 70 plus years, Irene, died in 2016.
